It's been in my experience that sometimes the people who are getting in the way of good business are business owners. They may just be good but that doesn't mean they're good at business. As a Digital marketing expert in Chattanooga, I have come across a variety of business owners, some of whom don't possess the business acumen to get past their first set of hurdles. The first hurdle being themselves.
I understand that not every business owner knows everything about their industry or niche, but that's the exact problem. Johnny the Lawn guy might know everything there is to know about lawn-mowers, zero turns, and aerating tools but that doesn't mean he knows about customer service, sales, and reasonable ROI.
Unfortunately, I've been in the position that I've had to coach and demonstrate to some business owners how to answer the phone. Not to just say, "Hello." when you answer the call, but answer it in a friendly, you're happy to have more business kind of way - instead of a why did you call me I was in the middle of something kind of way.
I'm going to be starting an endeavor that I think might be one of the most lucrative yet. It's not try to hustle by convincing business owners to buy my marketing tools but rather to build my own niche website for a business that I run, and hire people to run it for me. It's going to require more work. It's going to have a lot of ups and downs. Hell it's going to be a heck of a ride.
All I know is I kept saying to myself, "If only I worked in an industry that I could apply my own marketing skills to. Then I could be the best in town and not have to worry about the marketing side." Well, consider this fortuitous concept a launch into that world. Considering my personality is a creative one, I'm going to need to the support to keep pressing on. Knowing myself I could build two profit making companies and just end there.
Let the games begin.
I'm going to lay it out to you in technical terms what it is that I would do for you and your small or large business. I'm in the business of ranking websites; whether that is Google, Yahoo, Bing, Youtube or whatever else you might want, I will meticulously go over your accounts and prepare what you need to stay ahead of the competition.
My own personal website doesn't cater to the SEO freaks that want to fight for the rank in every city on the eastern sea board. That, to me, is a waste of time. It takes time and money to rank one website, I don't want to put all that energy into ranking mine, I want to boost your website and get that thing up and running in no time.

I have been working through classics of late; after reading the contemporary, 4 Hour Work Week, I felt the need to go back and read some classic essays and poetry. A free and simple book on Amazon for Kindle is "Walking" by Henry David Thoreau. It's been a really interesting read for me, about taking the time to walk and contemplate with none of the excess that comes with daily life. One of the quotes from my reading tonight was as follows:
[Speaking of America] "As a true patriot, I should be ashamed to think that Adam in paradise was more favorably situated on the whole than the backwoodsman in this country." ...
"... in Wildness is the preservation of the World."
Both things our current governments could learn a lot from is the haste in which they dispel the olden days of yesteryear, in search for the greatness of tomorrow; when all along the magnitude of the founding ideologies of America could still cornerstone our nations.
I'm not a "patriot" but seeing the paradigm through which the likes of Thoreau viewed the world, makes me wish we ardently pursued any favorable ideals with equal tenacity.
Until recently one of my greatest fears is that I am living a life of mediocrity, but it may now be that my subsequent generation will be entirely apathetic altogether.
In the meantime, I must find out what kind of man Thoreau would think I am.
"Which is the best man to deal with—he who knows nothing about a subject, and, what is extremely rare, knows that he knows nothing, or he who really knows something about it, but thinks that he knows all?"
Students of this era seem to have a lot of opinions with little research and substance to be able to defend their proposition. Which makes me fear what the economic state of America will look like in 20 years.
It is my feeling of responsibility to be passionate about something, anything, that will drive a country forward because without journeyman that have learned a trade and a skill that can revolutionize a generation.
What skills can you bring to the table? What can you passionately learn and master that you can monetize and deliver, something that solves a problem or makes life easier -- think outside the box.
Every day, write down something small that's an invention or a problem that needs solving. Push your brain to deliver results and force yourself to break a paradigm and think like no one else has before.
Just imagine what life would be like if we all didn't simply accept the status quo or mediocrity but instead always tried to think about the next step. When you begin to dwell in the apathy, in the comfort of today, you start to lose the cutting edge and persistence of a revolutionizing attitude.
